What Is the AI Draw Pro Pass and How Does It Work?

The short version

The Pro Pass is a paid access code for AI Draw, the app that turns plain-language descriptions into real, editable draw.io diagrams — flowcharts, UML, sequence diagrams, cloud architecture, org charts — which you can export as PNG, SVG, or .drawio source. It costs $9.90 and covers 30 days. It doesn’t change what the app can do; it only lifts the daily cap so you can generate more than 3 diagrams a day.

It’s bought separately from the free tier, not stacked on top of it. The free tier keeps working exactly as before for anyone who doesn’t want to pay.

  • Purchases stack — each one adds 30 days to any time you have left

Pro Pass or BYOK? Depends

There’s a second option in Settings: BYOK (bring your own key). You paste in your own AI API key and you can draw as much as you want — but usage is billed on your own key, so it lands on your AI provider’s bill rather than a flat fee.

Honestly, which one makes sense depends on your situation:

  • Pro Pass is the simple choice if you want a flat, predictable price and no interest in API keys.
  • BYOK makes sense if you already have a key and want unlimited use without a separate pass. If you only draw occasionally, it’s usually cheaper too, because you pay roughly for what you use.
  • If you’re just trying things out, the free tier is probably fine for a while.

My experience with it

In my experience, the Pro Pass is worth it if you generate diagrams in bursts. When I was sketching a cloud architecture for a project, I hit the 3-diagram cap within an hour — every tweak counts against the same limit, and I redraw a lot. One pass lasted me the full 30 days without ever thinking about the cap. The code showed up in my inbox quickly, and entering it in Settings took maybe thirty seconds. The one thing to remember: the 30 days run from the purchase, not from when you enter the code.

Honest limitations

To be fair, the pass isn’t magic. It lifts the cap but does nothing about output quality — on complex layouts the model can miss the mark, and you may need to describe the diagram twice or tidy up the result in a draw.io editor yourself. Because there’s no auto-renewal, it’s on you to buy again if you want another month; otherwise the cap quietly goes back to 3 a day. And the pass is tied to the access code rather than an account, so keep the email safe. If you’d rather not pay for a pass at all and have your own API key, BYOK is a legitimate alternative — nothing is locked behind the pass, and AI Draw itself works fine on the free tier for light use.
