How to Download a PDF From Google Docs (Two Clicks)

Download a Google Docs file as a PDF with File → Download → PDF Document — the PDF keeps your layout and lands in your downloads. Same two clicks in Google Sheets and Slides. That’s the whole trick, and it’s why “send it as a PDF” from Google Docs takes less time than making coffee.
Download a Google Doc as PDF
- Open the document in Google Docs.
- File → Download → PDF Document (.pdf).
- The file lands in your browser’s downloads folder.
That’s genuinely all of it. The export is automatic — no dialogs, no format choices, no settings to get wrong. It’s the smoothest PDF export on any platform, and it’s why this is the standard way to share Google Docs with people outside Google.
Download Sheets and Slides as PDF too
Sheets: File → Download → PDF Document — check the layout options in the dialog first (paper size, orientation, repeat header rows). Slides: File → Download → PDF Document — each slide becomes a page, animations dropped. Both are the same two-click flow with slightly more useful options in the dialog.
The honest part
Three things to check before you export:
- Comments and suggestions don’t export. If someone needs to see the discussion, share the link instead of the PDF.
- Page setup matters. Google Docs exports with your current page size and margins — set them before exporting if the recipient needs a specific format (like A4).
- Heavy images = heavy PDF. A doc full of photos exports to a chunky PDF. If it’s too big for email, compress it after exporting.
